"KERIS: POWER AND IDENTITY" ROYAL EXHBITION
This exhibition is the inaugural collaboration between Yayasan Raja Muda Selangor (YRMS) and Islamic Arts Malaysia to highlight the keris as a cultural marker of the most celebrated object in the Malay World. At its peak, it became a cultural phenomenon, with prevalence ranging from Aceh in the west up to Mindanao in the north east.
The exhibition will take you on a voyage through the maritime realm of Southeast Asia, tracing the rich history of the keris from its inception to its legendary status that it has acquired over centuries. A total of 94 important keris, including 59 from the exclusive collection of HRH Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, as well as supplementary artefacts, will reveal new perspectives about these daggers of distinction, the region and their regal associations.
The exhibition will have 6 sections and is open to the public from the 2nd of December 2022 to the 13th of March 2023 at the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia.
